Michail Antonio raved about the Celtic Park atmosphere after West Ham won the pre-season friendly 6-2 on Saturday.
The Hammers looked very good going forward against the Hoops.
And on the whole, David Moyes would have bene pleased with the performance of his team.
The West Ham players will have learned a great deal as well from playing at the historic Celtic Park…or as it is still widely known, Parkhead.
The east London outfit have some huge European clashes on the horizon and despite the fact that Parkhead wasn’t even a third full, playing in an arena like that would have been a hugely important experience for the Hammers, especially the younger players.
Michail Antonio comments on Celtic Park atmosphere
The Glasgow giant’s home ground is renowned for the incredible atmosphere it creates on math-days.
And Antonio told WHUFC.com how impressed he was by that despite the fact that there were only 18,000 people inside the ground:
“These are the sort of matches that show what we’ll come up against in Europe. Especially at the start of the game, they were making a lot of noise. I was standing a yard away from Nobes and Nobes was trying to speak to me and I couldn’t hear him, and that’s only with 18,000, so Imagine if this place was full! I’ve talked to a few people who played here and they said the atmosphere was the best they’ve ever played in so, although I’ve not experienced that, it was great to experience it anyway.”
It would be great if we drew Celtic at some point in Europe this season. A trip to Parkhead with 60,000 fans including a few thousand West Ham in the away end would be quite the occasion.
Saturday’s game was only a friendly but it’s a good indication of where we’re currently at.
And hopefully the clash with Celtic will stand us in good stead ahead of the Premier League and European campaigns ahead.
