Mark Warburton has made it very clear that he wants to bring a more attacking style to West Ham United when the new season kicks off.

Warburton joined the Hammers coaching staff last month and he comes with a really big reputation as a fantastic coach.

The 59-year-old, who has managed Rangers, Nottingham Forest and Queens Park Rangers, is very highly regarded in the game.

He replaced Stuart Pearce and will now be looking to leave his mark on West Ham as we look to make continued progress under David Moyes.

Warburton arrived at the London Stadium keen to make a big difference and help the Hammers kick on. But how does he plan to do that?

Mark Warburton makes attacking West Ham declaration

The former Rangers, Forest and QPR boss has repeatedly insisted that his job is to add value in his role with the Hammers.

And Warburton told WHUFC.com how he would like to add some more attacking flair to West Ham’s play, but not to the detriment of our defensive solidarity:

“In terms of West Ham, which is a top-ten Premier League team pushing hard for top-six, you have to say: ‘Right, what do West Ham do really well? Would it in any way be negatively impacted, but at the same time can I add something to the attacking side of the play because the quality of players we have here?’ Look at the quality of players in the squad and the manager is keen to add to that as well, so I’ve got to add something to that with my attacking philosophy, but make sure it’s never to the detriment of what has been done already.”

The key for the Hammers will be getting the balance right this season.

The addition of Nayef Aguerd proves that David Moyes is very keen to tighten his side up at the back.

It’s exciting to hear that Mark Warburton wants to bring more attacking intent to the current West Ham setup though.

Despite our fine progress over the past couple of years, one criticism of the team is that they are sometimes too passive and don’t take games to the opposition.

Perhaps that will change with Warburton now on board.
