‘Letting Moyes down’: talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor savages West Ham ace Gianluca Scamacca

Gabby Agbonlahor has slammed West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca, after his poor recent run of form.

The 23-year-old joined the Hammers for around £35.5 million from Sassuolo in the summer transfer window (Sky Sports).

The Italian made a strong start to life at the London Stadium, scoring six goals for West Ham. However, he has now gone eight games without a goal.

In my opinion, David Moyes has handled Scamacca terribly since he arrived at West Ham in the summer, and the Italian’s confidence has been badly affected as a result.

Scamacca looks totally lost at the moment, but the fact that he has been completely isolated in every single game really hasn’t helped him.

In spite of that, one of talkSPORT’s high-profile pundits has taken aim at the 23-year-old…

The ex-Aston Villa striker slammed the Italian hitman for his so-called poor recent form, when speaking on talkSPORT:

Scamacca scored a few goals, then he started doing flicks and he’s starting to have himself a bit. These players are letting him [Moyes] down, they’ve got to do more because they’ve got a good squad of players.

I think Agbonlahor has got this one completely wrong though.

The reason why Scamacca has been struggling over the past month is down to David Moyes in my opinion.

Rather than put him straight in the team when he was flying high on confidence after making a big money summer move, Moyes chose to ease him into action slowly.

That was the Scot’s first big mistake in my opinion. Strikers thrive on goals and when the stats aren’t looking good, their confidence will inevitably suffer.

An easy win for Moyes would have been to put Scamacca on penalties. The Scot didn’t even think of doing that though.

The Italian has scored six from six attempts throughout his career so far (Transfermarkt). He banged one in against Blackburn Rovers in the penalty shoot-out on Thursday night as well.

It’s painfully obvious to see that Scamacca’s confidence is the lowest it has ever been.

Moyes took the biscuit on Thursday by bringing the Italian on after 77 minutes. So all that has happened now is the 23-year-old’s stats look even worse.

Strikers are judged on their goals per game ratio, and the Scot is just making it impossible for him to thrive.

Gabby Agbonlahor has missed the point when it comes to Gianluca Scamacca in my opinion.
