Hammers key man Paul Nevin admits he could one day leave West Ham for the right club at the right time as he aims to inspire others.

There has been a sizeable turnover in the playing squad at West Ham under David Moyes over the last few years.

But there have been numerous departures and arrivals on the West Ham coaching staff too.

The Hammers saw around 10 players depart and eight arrive in the summer.

But two in particular that Hammers fans perhaps didn’t expect was the departure of Moyes’ assistant Stuart Pearce and the arrival of his replacement Mark Warburton.

Pearce told West Ham’s official website he had decided it was “the right time to step away and pursue other opportunities and challenges” when leaving the club this summer.

It came after Moyes lost one of his closest and most trusted allies in football when the highly-respected Alan Irvine stepped down as the Scot’s assistant the summer before.

Warburton’s appointment came completely out of left field. And the former Rangers, QPR, Nottingham Forest and Brentford boss clearly wanted a different challenge for himself after agreeing to become Moyes’ assistant despite – presumably – having a raft of opportunities to manage in his own right elsewhere.

West Ham also have Kevin Nolan and Billy McKinlay on their staff as well as goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero.

But it is England coach Nevin who appears to be Moyes’s right-hand man.

Nevin is one of the most respected and widely experienced coaches in the country as evidenced by his influential role with England under Gareth Southgate.

But the Hammers assistant is also keenly aware that as a BAME coach he is role model and beacon of hope for those following behind him.

Now key man Nevin admits he could one day leave West Ham for the right club at the right time as he aims to inspire others.

Having lost Irvine and Pearce, Moyes will be loathe to see Nevin go. And while the Hammers and England coach told The Evening Standard he is not necessarily actively looking to leave, he will if the right opportunity arises.

“I’m not seeking it at the moment,” Nevin told The Evening Standard.

“I’m in a great place with a great club but I owe it to myself and the people I’ve worked with (to try management).

“If the right opportunity came at the right time then I need to give it a go because maybe with that nudge at the door, if I’m successful, it can allow me to bring others in and give others opportunities…

“As a coach, you’ve always got to be willing to look for opportunities. Sometimes they don’t show up in the perfect place, where your family are and your network are.”
