The 28-year-old spent a wonderfully successful four month loan spell with the Hammers last season.

He left the London Stadium to return to Manchester United in the summer, however.

Lingard suggested that he was ready to fight for his place under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford.

Things haven’t quite gone to plan for the England international though. He hasn’t really been given many to chances to shine so far this season, and certainly not from the start of games.

Perhaps the most telling thing was Solskjaer’s refusal to bring Jesse on for Manchester United yesterday at home to Aston Villa when his team were chasing the game.

One Hammers fan pleaded with Jesse on Instagram to return to the London Stadium in January.

And Lingard’s brother Louie Scott liked the post:

David Moyes clearly loves Jesse Lingard and would obviously love to bring him back to the London Stadium.

Having brought Nikola Vlasic to West Ham in the summer though, it remains to be seen whether Moyes will try an add another attacking midfielder to his ranks in January.

Lingard was superb for the Hammers:

Much will depend on how much game time Lingard gets between now and January. If Solskjaer continues to leave him on the sidelines a return to West Ham seems like the ideal solution for all parties concerned.
