Harry Redknapp has praised West Ham manager David Moyes for signing Craig Dawson, and suggested that a foreign manager wouldn’t have taken the plunge.
The 32-year-old centre-back ended up staying at West Ham though. And thank God he did!
Dawson has been absolutely sensational for the Hammers since returning to David Moyes’s starting XI.
Unfortunately for us, he suffered an injury again a couple of weeks ago. And to add further insult to injury, it has been claimed by club insiders that he is keen to leave West Ham in January in order to move closer to his family in the north of England.

He originally joined the Hammers on a season-long loan from Watford in October 2020. West Ham then made his move to the London Stadium a permanent one for a further £3 million in the summer of 2021 (The Sun).
Daws has established himself as a cult hero at West Ham, but he’s actually a lot more than that. He’s a very good good defender, and labelling him as a cult hero really doesn’t do him justice.
What a turnaround eh! When he was signed, David Moyes received all sorts of stick for bringing him to the London Stadium,
And now, Moyes has been praised for taking the plunge with Dawson…
Harry Redknapp praises David Moyes for bringing Craig Dawson to West Ham
The ex-Hammers boss sat down for an interview with WHUFC.com, and shared his delight that Moyes has done so well over the past few years:
It’s good that British managers like David Moyes are doing so well. Only a British manager, for example, would have signed Craig Dawson in my opinion. He wasn’t even in Watford’s team at the time, but David Moyes knew what Craig could do – and signed him. Since then he’s been great for West Ham, a top defender who also scores valuable goals. He was a great signing.

Redknapp has got this one spot on.
Dawson has been an absolute revelation since joining the Hammers.
The 32-year-old is one of the best passers amongst the West Ham centre-backs now having worked really hard to improve that aspect of his game, and he deserves huge credit for that.
Dawson has proven that you shouldn’t ever judge a book by its cover.
He has been absolutely superb for the Hammers for the past two years. I really hope that he ends up staying at West Ham.
The West Ham fans should be grateful that David Moyes took the plunge on Craig Dawson. And Redknapp is correct. Surely any manager from abroad would not have had the foresight to bring Daws to the London Stadium.
