'Happy to admit': Some West Ham fans thrilled they were wrong as Hammers post message on Twitter

Craig Dawson made his 50th appearance for West Ham last night and some Hammers fans have responded on Twitter to an official club tweet about the defender.

The 31-year-old joined the Hammers on loan from Watford in October 2020 before making his move to the London Stadium a permanent one in the summer of 2021 for around £2 million (Daily Mail).

When David Moyes brought Dawson to West Ham, most of the club’s fans were gobsmacked.

The majority of the West Ham fanbase could not believe that the Scot had signed a journeyman, supposed error-prone centre-back when we needed a shiny, big-money new striker signing.

The Hammers fans (including myself) gave the club, Moyes and the owners pelters on Twitter for the Dawson signing.

How silly we all look now! The 31-year-old has been absolutely brilliant for the club and has arguably been the best value for money Premier League signing made by West Ham in recent history.

Dawson made his 50th appearance for the Hammers last night during our 2-0 win over Norwich City at the London Stadium.

During those outings, he has scored five goals and racked up 18 clean sheets (Transfermarkt).

The former Watford and West Brom defender gives his absolute all every time he takes to the pitch. Dawson is a worrier and he bleeds claret and blue for the East London outfit.

In 18 Premier League appearances for West Ham this season, Dawson has averaged one tackle, 1.1 interceptions, 3.6 clearances and 1.3 blocks per match (Who Scored).

His passing isn’t as bad as people make out either. From an average of 33.2 passes per game this term he’s recorded a completion rate of 81.2% (Who Scored).

Not bad for £2 million eh!

West Ham fans react on Twitter to official club message about Dawson

The experienced defender has really endeared himself to the club’s fans over the past 15 months or so. Not only does he give his absolute all for our football club but he’s actually pretty good as well.

We have really needed him to step up over the past two months with no Angelo Ogbonna or Kurt Zouma. And boy has he done that.

Dawson has been absolutely brilliant for the Hammers.
