Hammers boss David Moyes bit back at a reporter for suggesting Spurs are a bigger club than West Ham after their 1-1 draw last night.
West Ham found themselves 1-0 down at half-time due to a Thilo Kehrer own-goal after a swift counter attack from bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
In truth Spurs would have had a tap in had Kehrer not slid in to try and stop the cross.
But another much improved second half performance saw Tomas Soucek equalise after a clever flick from Michail Antonio.
West Ham then wasted three gilt-edged chances to win the game late on.
There is no love lost between West Ham and Spurs.
And after Tottenham’s rapid rise under Mauricio Pochettino there was a clear gulf between the two sides on the pitch for a time.
But the Hammers have closed that gap under Moyes while the club continues to grow off the pitch.
West Ham have a similar stadium capacity to Tottenham (62,500 compared to 62,850) but will surpass it when it raises to 66,000 in the not too distant future.
The Hammers have the most season ticket holders in the Premier League with 55,000.
And West Ham have a huge, fiercely loyal fanbase and have qualified for Europe for consecutive seasons having established themselves in and around the top six – finishing above Tottenham the season before last.
Spurs did brilliantly to make the Champions League under Antonio Conte last season. They have some world class players and are also a huge club.
But when it was put to Moyes that a draw against Tottenham was a good because they were a “big six” club, it did not go down well with the fiery Scot.
It saw Hammers boss Moyes bite back at the reporter for suggesting Spurs are a bigger club than West Ham.

“I disagree with your thing, a bigger team,” Moyes said when asked how pleased he was to get a result against one of the bigger teams in Tottenham (Football.London).
“We are as big as Tottenham…
“Our performance at times tonight was good. Tonight, there were were a lot of good things we did against a team in form.”
Brilliant from Moyes and he is right to challenge the sycophantic media and their perpetuation of the Sky Sports Frankenstein’s monster creation that is the “Big Six”.
More managers need to do the same.
The likes of Spurs and Arsenal were a laughing stock when they jumped into bed with the other so-called elite clubs in a bid to form a European Super League.
Let’s not forget that.
