Finger pointing at West Ham boss David Moyes after recent Harrison Ashby claims

David Moyes needs to start playing Harrison Ashby regularly for West Ham in the Premier League and Europe, or risk losing him in January.

Or even worse, next summer on a free transfer.

Described as an ‘excellent’ player by Football.London, the 20-year-old is out of contract at the London Stadium in the summer of 2023.

Let’s face it, the Hammers aren’t exactly blessed with a plethora quality right-backs at the moment are we!

Vladimir Coufal has regressed badly over the past year or so and if truth be told, he’s just not at the level required for Premier League football.

The same can be said of Ben Johnson – he has been absolutely appalling defensively over the past few games for West Ham.

Thilo Kehrer can play at right-back of course, but the early indications are that he is far too rash and has proven to be somewhat of a liability for West Ham over our past two or three games.

Ashby is better than both of them in my opinion. Losing him for a nominal fee in January or for absolutely nothing in the summer of 2023 would be an absolute disaster.

And Moyes should be doing everything in his power to stop that from happening…

The 20-year-old should be the first-choice right-back at the London Stadium in my opinion. And if Moyes starts playing him regularly, he might sign a new deal with the Hammers.

The Scotland under-21 international is the brightest young talent we have at the club in my opinion.

He will undoubtedly go on to become an elite right-back, if his attitude and application to work is spot on of course.

Ashby was really close to joining Newcastle United on transfer deadline day in the summer, according to The Daily Mail.

And since then, it has emerged that he shares the same agent as Newcastle boss Eddie Howe.

So it’s clear to see that he is very much a player in high demand.

Losing Harrison Ashby would be a total disaster for West Ham, and David Moyes would have to take a lot of the blame if that does indeed happen.

The solution really is very simple for the Scot though. Ashby should be starting week in, week out for the Hammers. If the 20-year-old feels valued, he will surely commit his long-term future to the club.
