Everton have just been dealt a truly massive blow ahead of their clash with West Ham next weekend.

The Toffees play host to the Hammers at Goodison Park next Sunday in the Premier League.

Everton and West Ham have made decent starts to their respective campaigns and both teams will be confident of taking all three points from the encounter on Merseyside.

And the Hammers might just fancy their chances even more so after the latest development…

Everton dealt truly massive blow ahead of West Ham clash

Both clubs currently have large amounts of players away with their countries on international duty.

And the Toffees have had some very bad news.

According to the official Everton website, Lucas Digne has been forced to withdraw from the France squad after suffering a hamstring injury.

The statement does make it clear that the Frenchman’s hamstring injury is ‘minor’.

He still has his work cut out to be fit in time for next Sunday’s clash with West Ham though.

Digne has played a key role for Rafa Benitez’s new look Everton side this season.

In six Premier League outings, the former Barcelona ace has averaged 1.4 tackles, one interception and two clearances per game (Who Scored).

He is a very good defender and is a constant threat going forward down the left hand flank.

His deliveries from set-pieces really are something special as well.

If he’s missing next weekend, it will be a truly massive blow for Everton.
