Declan Rice posted a 16-word message to the West Ham United fans after yet another gut-wrenching defeat.

The Hammers lost 2-0 to Leicester at the London Stadium yesterday in a game that we quite simply had to win, if we were to have any chance of pushing for a top seven finish after the World Cup break.

Our hopes of doing that now seem bleak. Things just aren’t clicking for David Moyes and his team.

Declan Rice has been one of only a few positives from the first third of the season for the West Ham fans to take into the World Cup break.

The 23-year-old has been absolutely magnificent over the past month or two for the Hammers.

Rice really is head and shoulders above every other player at the London Stadium. And that’s the problem isn’t it. As a team, West Ham really are far too reliant on him to make things happen all the time.

He’s a defensive midfielder by trade but has now evolved into more of a box-to-box one. And he is our main attacking outlet as well!

That’s a lot of pressure for a 23-year-old, but he’s clearly capable of shouldering that. Rice is captain of the football club after all!

And yesterday’s defeat clearly hurt Dec, just like it did the fans…

The Hammers star is now due to head off to Qatar for the World Cup with England, and we won’t see him in a West Ham shirt until the Boxing Day clash with Arsenal.

Losing to Leicester was a truly awful way to bow out before the six-week break.

And Declan Rice took to Twitter to send a message to the West Ham fans after the defeat to the Foxes:

He’s a class act the boy isn’t he.

I dread the thought of him leaving the London Stadium, but we have to all accept that it will happen one day.

Declan Rice has been head and shoulders above everyone else at West Ham for quite some time now.

And we have to think ourselves extremely lucky that he plays for us.
