David Moyes must start 29-year-old West Ham star Alphonse Areola against Brentford on Friday, if he is to save his job.
Nothing less than a win will do against the Bees in a few day’s time at the London Stadium, and Moyes must know that.
The Hammers are in all sorts of trouble at the moment, and are currently embroiled in a real relegation battle.
Moyes’s men are sitting in 16th spot in the Premier League table, just one point clear of the relegation zone.
One of the Scot’s biggest errors over the past few months has been his blind faith in certain payers who are just not performing to the levels that they should be.
And one of those is Lukasz Fabianski in my opinion…
Moyes must start Areola to help save his job
Fabianski has been a great servant for the Hammers but at 37 he is now well past his best, and is beginning to cost us dearly.
His goalkeeping for Arsenal’s second goal last night was unforgivably bad.
It’s not the first time Fabianski has been beaten at his near post though is it! Surely it’s time that Areola comes into the side in place of Fab.
The 29-year-old Frenchman is one of the very best shot-stoppers around in my opinion.
Areola is far better with his feet than the Polish stopper is and his passing repertoire is on another level entirely.
He commands his penalty area better and is just an all-round better goalkeeper. That’s just facts. Why can’t Moyes see it though? Or is it a case of him sticking with Fabianski rather than caving into fan demands? You know…the fans who think we’re ‘experts’ as Moyes so nicely put it a couple of months ago.
Whatever happens, the Scot needs a result against Brentford to save his job in my opinion.
If we lose the match, he could very well be sent packing by the Hammers owners.
And if Moyes is to save his job, starting Areola against Brentford should be an absolute no-brainer.
