David Moyes offered support for West Ham United forward Michail Antonio when speaking to reporters yesterday afternoon.

The 31-year-old has been badly out of form over the past few weeks.

Since returning from the last international break, Antonio has looked well off the pace.

The former Nottingham Forest ace last scored for West Ham at the end of October and hasn’t found the back of the net in his last eight outings for the Hammers.

Perhaps Micky is a victim of his own success. He has been magnificent for West Ham since football resumed after the first lockdown way back in June 2020.

He is clearly not a natural striker, so sometimes he will look completely out of his depth. That’s why we need Moyes to sign a top-class striker in January.

David Moyes makes prediction about West Ham ace Michail Antonio

The Scot was speaking to reporters yesterday ahead of our game against Arsenal tonight.

And Moyes backed Micky to come good again, suggesting that he has noticed signs that the forward is beginning to click into gear, as quoted by Football.London:

“He’s been amazing for us since we put him as centre-forward. He’s been unbelievable, and with the run of goals he was on when we came out of lockdown and his pride in trying to be a goalscorer and trying to become a No.9. When you become a No.9 you go through phases when you can’t score and the secret’s to keep going. When his form’s good, I think the team plays much better. His all-round form is really important to how we play, but I’ve seen signs it’s just beginning to click a little with him again, so hopefully we’re not too far away.”

That really is a very bold shout from Moyes. Micky hasn’t looked anywhere near his best over the past month.

David Moyes obviously knows more than we do though and sees Michail Antonio in West Ham training every single day.

If we are to win away at Arsenal tonight, we need Antonio to be back to his very best.
