Whatever your opinion of David Moyes he can never be accused of not buying into West Ham United Football Club.

When Moyes was appointed West Ham boss first time around as Slaven Bilic’s replacement it is fair to say it caused uproar.

The Scot’s reputation was in tatters after doomed spells at Manchester United, Real Sociedad and Sunderland.

But Moyes earned the respect of fans by keeping West Ham up, even if he did not appear to earn the same respect from the owners who ditched him for Manuel Pellegrini.

Moyes has earned Hammers respect the hard way

That expensive vanity project did not work out. And Moyes returned just over a year ago, pulling off an even more difficult survival bid.

That, and overseeing West Ham’s best start to a season for 22 years, means Moyes now has plenty of credit in the bank.

This time with the owners too as he appears set to sign a new deal keeping at the club for another two-three years (Claret & Hugh).

Moyes really does “get” West Ham.

The hard-working manager told The Times how he planned sit down meetings with Sir Trevor Brooking, Alvin Martin, Tony Cottee and Billy Bonds in a bid to do just that.

Moyes labels West Ham a ‘monster club’ and makes vow to success starved fans

Moyes has his foundations in place and plans to completely revamp West Ham’s recruitment (Evening Standard).

Now he is feeling bullish – if realistic – about the club’s future.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Burnley game, Moyes described West Ham as a ‘monster club’.

And he vowed to bring the good times back, with time and patience.

“All managers need a level of trust whether from the owners or the supporters. You don’t always get it,” said Moyes (as quoted by the likes of The Mirror and Claret & Hugh from the press conference).

“I’ve had to keep the team up twice to gain that.

‘We’re going the right way now’

“Now I want the recruitment to go in a completely different direction. This is a monster of a club. It really is. And it’s turning, you know, I wish I could turn it really quick, but most of these big, big vessels can’t turn quick, they have to take their time.

“And we are one of them and certainly try to get back on course. We are trying our best to make sure we turn it around.

“Everybody in the club is pulling in the right direction, from the top down to me to the players as a club at the moment. I am really enjoying it.

“I am enjoying it because I know that I can help the direction as well and I hope it continues.

“We will have days when it’s not great, or times when it doesn’t go always right, but I think and hope that we’re going the right way now.”
