West Ham boss David Moyes could be about to make a really poor decision with Conor Coventry reportedly having been told that he can leave the London Stadium on loan.

Well-informed club insider ExWHUemployee has suggested that the Hammers are prepared to accept a loan offer for the 21-year-old from Peterborough United.

This news really does come as a huge surprise.

Coventry has been exceptional during West Ham’s pre-season games so far.

The young midfielder has more than proven that he is ready to step up to Premier League level.

The Hammers boss allegedly doesn’t see it that way, however.

David Moyes on verge of worst decision as West Ham boss

The Scot has got so many things right since returning to the London Stadium.

He has been lauded for the signings of Jarrod Bowen, Tomas Soucek, Vladimir Coufal, Craig Dawson and Said Benrahma.

And rightly so.

The one blip he’s had in the transfer market was signing Jordan Hugill, although that was during his first spell in charge of West Ham.

Moyes could be set to top that decision, however.

West Ham have arguably the weakest central midfield department in the Premier League as far as strength in depth is concerned.

Aside from Tomas Soucek and Declan Rice, Moyes only has Mark Noble and Coventry to call upon.

Loaning out the 21-year-old would be utter madness, leaving 34-year-old Noble as the only cover for Rice and Soucek.

Surely Moyes can see the problems we will have if either one of the England or Czech Republic internationals suffer a serious injury.

It happened last year when we lost Rice for a sustained period of time.

Moyes may well have a masterplan up his sleeve of course.

Perhaps the Scot plans to bring in another top class central midfielder. In that case, it would make sense for Coventry to leave on loan.

If West Ham do not sign a CM, however, and still send the 21-year-old out on loan, it would be a decision that may well end up having hugely detrimental consequences this season.
