As the war continues, we can’t comprehend just how hard it must be for Yarmo to go about his business. He proved just how committed he still is during our win over Aston Villa at the London Stadium last weekend.

And incredibly, Yarmolenko was up to the task once again last night when it really mattered against Sevilla.

The Ukrainian came on as a late substitute with just a few minutes of normal time remaining. Amazingly, given his lack of football this season, the experienced attacker made a huge difference for West Ham once again.

He was in the right place at the right time to prod home after Pablo Fornals’ shot was saved by Sevilla goalkeeper Bono. Yarmo’s goal was enough to fire West Ham into the quarter-finals of the Europa League and he has since been showered with praise from his teammates, manager and the fans.

Declan Rice raves about Yarmolenko after huge goal against Sevilla

Dec was absolutely buzzing after our win against Sevilla.

And he was particularly pleased for his teammate Yarmolenko after the Ukrainian’s heroics.

Rice spoke to reporters and suggested that the 32-year-old has stepped up big time over the past week when West Ham needed him most, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“Yarmolenko was a little bit emotional away from the lads afterwards. For what he’s been through to perform like this is a credit to him – his desire, the way he chased players and scored two crucial goals. He deserves this. He stepped up. I’m delighted for him. He was well onside and what a brilliant finish to come on in like that and tap it in, it was a great finish. It was like his goal at the weekend, another great finish for him.”

Yarmolenko’s goal against Sevilla was such a great moment for everyone connected with West Ham but for him and his fellow countrymen as well.

These are incredibly trying times at the moment. As the war continues, we can’t comprehend just how hard it must be for the Ukrainian people to go about their business.

The 32-year-old’s goal last night was hugely significant for us a football club but it also would have sent a real message of hope around the globe.

Well done Andriy. Everyone at West Ham is right behind you.
