Aleksandar Mitrovic is on fire for Fulham at the moment but West Ham fans shouldn’t be bothered in the slightest after David Moyes chose not to sign him in the summer.
The Hammers boss desperately tried to sign a new striker during the summer transfer window.
Unfortunately for him and West Ham, however, he failed to make that happen.
One of the strikers we were linked with was Fulham hitman Mitrovic (The Sun).
The Sun claimed that the Cottagers actually rejected a £16 million bid for the 68-capped Serbia international.
Aleksandar Mitrovic on fire but West Ham fans shouldn’t fret
The 27-year-old striker has been in sensational form for Fulham so far this season.
Mitrovic has scored 18 goals in just 15 Championship games for the Cottagers (Transfermarkt).
Considering the fact that 31 goals is the record for a season in the Championship, Mitro’s form really has been impressive.
The Serbian has fired Fulham to second in the Championship.
West Ham fans shouldn’t be annoyed that we missed out on him though.
The difference in quality and intensity between the Championship and the Premier League is enormous.
There have been many strikers who score for fun in the Championship but then struggle in the Premier League.
The same goes for teams.
Look at Norwich and Teemu Pukki for example.
Let’s look at Mitrovic’s Premier League record as well – 24 goals in 104 games (Transfermarkt). That’s underwhelming to say the least.
There is no evidence that he would have done any better for West Ham had we signed him.
The Hammers can do a lot better than Mitrovic. And we shouldn’t let his great form in the Championship cloud our judgement on that fact.
