West Ham United sold young centre-back Aji Alese to Championship club Sunderland in the summer transfer window.
David Moyes received plenty of criticism from the Hammers fans for letting the 21-year-old leave the London Stadium on a permanent deal.

West Ham only received around £500k plus add-ons for Alese as well, according to ExWHUemployee.

The deal did allegedly include a 25% sell-on fee but still, it seemed like a strange move at the time from the Hammers.
Alese haș really struggled to establish himself at Sunderland though.
It’s still very early days of course, but perhaps Moyes has got this one right yet again!
Aji Alese struggles with Sunderland
A worrying trend has emerged at the London Stadium over the past couple of years. The club’s most highly-rated young players seem to be leaving.
Jeremy Ngakia and Sonny Perkins both moved on to Watford and Leeds respectively. And Alese was sold to Sunderland. Meanwhile, Harrison Ashby was heavily linked with a move to Newcastle on transfer deadline day.
The thing is, as things stand, Moyes has been proven right. Ngakia hasn’t done anything of note at Watford and Perkins has been put straight into the under-23s at Leeds.
Meanwhile, Alese has struggled at the Stadium of Light.

He has made just two Championship appearances – both of those coming off the bench and totalling only six minutes of action (Transfermarkt).
He did play 90 minutes for the Black Cats in the Carabao Cup against Sheffield Wednesday but had a torrid time during his side’s 2-0 defeat to the Owls.
Alese haș a lot of talent. He was so good for West Ham’s under-23s. That doesn’t always translate to being a hit at senior level – certainly not in the Premier League. This is something that has been proven over and over again with numerous youngsters that have come through the ranks.
Perhaps Moyes got this one right.
Aji Alese has made an inauspicious start at Sunderland. And whilst we certainly aren’t praying for him to fail, his poor start seems to have vindicated the club’s decision to let him go.
