And Downes should get another chance to shine tomorrow night against Silkeborg in the UEFA Europa Conference League Group B match-day two clash.
Should the ex-Swansea midfielder produce the goods again in Denmark, David Moyes will surely find it very hard to leave him out of his starting XI against Everton on Sunday.
After Downes’ display against FCSB though, it would be a huge shock if the Czech ace starts ahead of him tomorrow night…
Flynn Downes could nail down place for Everton vs West Ham
The 23-year-old is surely a shoo in to start against Silkeborg tomorrow night. He was absolutely brilliant against FCSB last week.
He kept us ticking and moved the ball around at ease.
If I have one criticism of Downes, it would be the fact that he rarely passed forward but that will come with more confidence and experience. And let’s be honest, that’s not really his job is it?
The Brentwood-born Hammer got stuck in, was tenacious in the tackle and provided a solid shield for our backline. He had plenty of energy as well – a prerequisite for anyone who plays for David Moyes.
Downes really laid down a marker with his performance last week, and he has given Moyes something to think about now.
Tomas Soucek, signed for £15 million two years ago (Daily Mail), hasn’t been anywhere near his best this season.
And if Downes puts in another top-class display against Silkeborg tomorrow night, he may well force David Moyes into picking him for the Everton vs West Ham clash on Sunday.
