West Ham United will reclaim fourth position in the Premier League table with a win over Sheffield United.

That’s after results elsewhere once again went in West Ham’s favour this weekend.

Hammers must be ruthless against sharper Blades who have nothing to lose

But the fact is Chris Wilder’s side are still bottom with – realistically – little to no hope of staying up.

So the stage is set for West Ham to get a hugely important win that would push David Moyes’s side back into the Champions League spots.

Results have been falling West Ham’s way of late.

And it was the same again this weekend. Liverpool were beaten 3-1 by Leicester leaving Jurgen Klopp worried about the club’s top four chances.

Tottenham were smashed 3-0 by Manchester City. And Aston Villa were extremely fortunate to draw 0-0 at Brighton.

Results go West Ham’s way again as fourth spot beckons with win

Everton, another of West Ham’s rivals for a European spot, play Fulham today.

The Toffees must win if they are to leapfrog the Hammers. But even if they do, victory for West Ham in the early evening kick off will push them up to fourth regardless.

That would then put Chelsea – playing against an improved Newcastle side after the West Ham game – under pressure.

West Ham would then have 14 games left to hold on to one of the European spots, which could go down to seventh place depending on who wins the domestic cups.

In this wide open season West Ham should dare to dream of Champions League qualification.

Hammers must dare to dream in a season like no other

If Leicester City can win the league and challenge for the top four then why not West Ham?

But even Europa League qualification would be a significant achievement.

Whether the Hammers achieve a European place will largely depend on two things; injuries and Moyes.

If West Ham can keep Michail Antonio fit and get Angelo Ogbonna back soon then they have every chance.

But Moyes must also alter his approach to games against top clubs. Many West Ham fans feel his unambitious approach to some of those games has passed up the chance for even more points.

The recent games against Chelsea and Liverpool – sides who were both there for the taking as previous and subsequent results proved – being a case in point.
