Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher was once impressed by West Ham United match-winner Jarrod Bowen after the victory over Aston Villa.

West Ham want former Newcastle striker in January claims insider

West Ham won a feisty encounter against Villa 2-1.

Tensions boiled over on the pitch and the sidelines.

But among it all Bowen kept a calm head and used it to nod home Said Benrahma’s delicate cross for what turned out to be the winner.

Bowen the difference as West Ham beat Villa

Although Villa dominated the game for long spells, Bowen was a constant threat for West Ham and worked his socks off again.

Bowen got an assist for West Ham’s first when his excellent corner was headed home by Angelo Ogbonna.

And it was the winger who took the game to Villa at the start of the second half, driving at the visitors’s defence before laying the ball off to Benrahma and darting into the box to receive the assist.

Most of the talk after the game was about VAR.

Carragher hails ‘brilliant West Ham signing’

But Carragher did find time to laud Bowen, who has impressed him since signing for the West Ham.

“Bowen, he has been a brilliant signing him,” Carragher said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

“He’s just one of those players, he always nicks a goal every three or four games, you just see him on the scoresheet. And again he’s got a vital goal for them.

“He does really well on that right side coming inside and he’s been a great signing for them from the Championship.”

Bowen was arguably West Ham’s best player on the night.

That was his fifth goal for West Ham since signing for the club back in January.

Bowen goal involvements hugely encouraging

But crucially it was his fourth goal in 10 games this season. With an assist to his name too it gives Bowen a goal involvement ratio of one every other game.

With every passing game, the £20million West Ham spent to sign Bowen from Hull looks a bargain.

David Moyes has made some astute signings since rejoining the Hammers.

And Bowen is certainly one of them with an average match rating approaching 7/10 (WhoScored.com).
