West Ham United beat Arsenal 2-0 in the Premier League last night, and Edson Alvarez stood out as our best player in my view.
Edson Alvarez was sensational for West Ham against Arsenal, and played a key role in our three points that lifted us up to the dizzy heights of sixth in the Premier League table.
Hammers boss David Moyes brought the 26-year-old to the London Stadium from Ajax in the summer, and the Scot recently admitted just how impressed he has been with the midfielder’s performances for the club this season.
West Ham sold Declan Rice to Arsenal in the summer, so bringing a top-class defensive midfielder to the club to replace the 24-year-old would have been one of Moyes’s main priorities.
And credit where credit’s due, Moyes has absolutely nailed it with the signing of Alvarez – what a player he is.
The Mexico international covered every single blade of grass against the Gunners last night, and his stats were truly breathtaking…

Edson Alvarez stats vs Arsenal
The exceptional Hammers star really stood out for me at the Emirates last night, and was a major contributing factor in our incredible 2-0 win.
Against the Gunners, Alvarez had 42 touches of the ball and made five tackles, one interception, one clearance and two blocks. The Mexican had just one unsuccessful touch and wasn’t dispossessed once. He made 25 passes and recorded a completion rate of 92% (Who Scored).
Considering the fact that we paid just £34 million for the 26-year-old (Daily Mail), there is a genuine case to be made for him being one of the very best signings of the summer in the Premier League.
Moyes would have been delighted with the way in which he imposed himself on the game against Arsenal, and he unquestionably won the central midfield battle.
The Edson Alvarez stats from last night prove just how much the Mexican contributes for us in the defensive third.
Hopefully there is plenty more where that came from, and Alvarez continues to get better and better with every single week that passes.
