West Ham United under-21s beat Brighton’s youngsters 4-1 on Friday, and it was a bitter-sweet night for Divin Mubama after a couple of goals and a red card.

The West Ham under-21 side are sitting top of the table, one point ahead of second placed Tottenham, but Divin Mubama hasn’t actually played many games for the youth team so far this term, somewhat surprisingly.

The Hammers under-21s squad is packed full of elite young talents, and the future is clearly very bright at the London Stadium.

David Moyes and the West Ham fans must be very excited indeed. Mubama is one of our standout young talents, and he has been in and around the first-team squad for the past 18 months or so.

The teenage hitman experienced a really eventful evening down on the south coast on Friday…

Divin Mubama laughs when walking off the pitch after red card

The young striker received a straight red card late on in the game for shoving Brighton player Ruairi McConville.

When Mubama exited the pitch, he was laughing to himself. That’s fine if it was a sarcastic laugh I guess, but if the game had been closer, he could have cost us by getting sent off.

The red card came after he had scored two goals for Steve Potts’ side. Amazingly, those two goals were his first for the under-21s in the league this season.

I guess he has spent most of the campaign with the senior side.

It will be interesting to see if Potts mentions anything about the reaction from Divin Mubama after he was handed a red card on Friday night.

In fairness to the teenager, he was pushed first and he reacted. Hopefully he’ll learn from the situation and it won’t happen again.
