According to a report from the Daily Record, West Ham boss David Moyes is prepared to pay £5 million for Brighton centre-back Shane Duffy this summer.
The 57-year-old Scot needs to bring more defensive reinforcements to the London Stadium this summer.
The Hammers conceded 62 goals in the Premier League last season. And that is quite simply not good enough.
Angelo Ogbonna was brilliant last season but he will be 33 next term. And Winston Reid, Fabian Balbuena and Issa Diop all face uncertain futures with West Ham.
The Daily Record claims that Shane Duffy is one of Moyes’s top targets, but the Hammers boss will have to battle it out with Celtic for the 28-year-old’s signature.
And it is claimed that West Ham are prepared to pay £35 million for the 33-capped Republic of Ireland international.
Duffy made 19 Premier League appearances for the Seagulls last season, scoring one goal in the process (Who Scored).
In those outings, the 28-year-old averaged 0.9 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 3.7 clearances per game. He also won 3.7 aerial duals on average per game in those appearances (Who Scored).
Duffy is a big, strong and commanding centre-back. He is exactly the kind of no-nonsense defender West Ham need.
£5 million for the Seagulls ace would represent excellent business for the Hammers. Whether the south coast club will be prepared to sell the centre-back for that amount, however, remains to be seen.
