Opinion: Sebastien Haller out and Luka Jovic in in would be superb business for West Ham

According to the Express, West Ham could be looking to sign Real Madrid hitman Luka Jovic this summer if Sebastien Haller is sold to Monaco.

And replacing the Frenchman with the Serbian could be excellent business from the Hammers.

Whatever anyone says about Haller, he quite simply hasn’t cut it since moving to the London Stadium for around £45 million last summer.

Sure, he hasn’t been given much support or service, but sometimes you have to make your own luck. And the 26-year-old clearly didn’t put himself about enough physically last season.

Haller lost his place to Michail Antonio after Premier League action resumed in June. And he is clearly not a guaranteed starter now under David Moyes.

There are some West Ham fans who believe that the former Eintracht Frankfurt striker will come good.

But here surely wouldn’t be too many who would complain if he was moved on a for a decent fee and replaced by his former strike partner Luka Jovic.

Jovic heading for Bernabeu exit door?

The 22-year-old, who earns £165,000 per week at the Santiago Bernabeu (Sportekz), is up for sale this summer, according to AS, with Zinedine Zidane keen to move him on.

The Serbia international just hasn’t been given enough chances to shine in the Spanish capital this season.

But his talent is undeniable.

The 22-year-old joined Madrid last summer for around £55 million (Goal). He was given just 422 minutes of La Liga action last season, however, and that goes some way to explaining his poor numbers last season.

The Serbia international proved with Eintracht Frankfurt what he is capable of, with 27 goals and six assists in 46 games during the 2018/19 campaign (Who Scored).

And if given a regular run of games at West Ham, he might just rediscover that kind of form.

A big stumbling block, of course, will be the money it will take to prise him away from Los Blancos. He will also undoubtedly command huge wages.

But if David Moyes manages to sell some of his big earners this summer, including Haller, then there is no reason why we can’t be ambitious and move for someone like Luka Jovic.

He would be a real upgrade on the misfiring Frenchman.
