UEFA Europa League Last 16 draw done as West Ham get horror tie

The Europa League Last 16 draw took place this morning in Nyon Switzerland, and West Ham will face Sevilla over a two-legged tie next month.

The Hammers finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season, ensuring our qualification for the UEFA Europa League this term.

West Ham were brilliant during our Europa League Group campaign, winning four, drawing one and losing one of our six games.

David Moyes comfortably guided his Hammers side to the top of the group and as a result we avoided the play-offs.

The Europa League draw took place this morning and West Ham fans all over the globe were keeping a very close eye on who we pulled out of the hat.

So…Who did West Ham draw in the Europa League?

Europa League draw made as West Ham face Sevilla tie

The Hammers pulled Sevilla out of the hat in Switzerland this morning.

The two ties will be played on March 10th and 17th with the first leg to be played at The Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium and the clash at the London Stadium coming the week after.

Sevilla have won the competition a record six times and were probably one of the two or three teams that West Ham really wouldn’t have wanted to draw.

The last-16 draw can be seen here via UEFA’s official website.

These are really exciting times to be a West Ham fan. Sure, we have struggled in the league of late but if someone would have told you we would be in the last 16 of the Europa League back at the end of 2019 you would have politely suggested that they should go and see a doctor.

The question now is whether we have enough in the tank to go out and progress through to the quarter-finals of the competition.

Our first XI is good enough to beat any team on their day, if each and every player is on top form. The concern is that a couple of injuries to key players could really derail our season and impact our chances of winning the Europa League greatly.

Whatever happens though, we can all be immensely proud of the progress that we have made as a football club over there past two years.

David Moyes is certainly not without his faults but the job that he has done at the London Stadium has been truly incredible.

And our Europa League tie against Sevilla next month is something that the West Ham fans should all be really excited about.
