West Ham United are now guaranteed to be partaking in European football in 2024.

David Moyes deserves huge credit for the job that he’s done since taking over at West Ham for the second time in December 2019, whatever you think of him.

The European football that he has delivered for the Hammers really has been a big lift for the fans after some huge lows over the past decade or so.

West Ham are in the Europa League this season because we were victorious in the Europa Conference League last term – our first major trophy since 1980!

We are currently enjoying our third successive European campaign – quite the achievement from Moyes and his players.

And we are now certain to have some kind of European football at the London Stadium next season as well…

European football at West Ham in 2024 guaranteed

After our win last night, the Hammers are guaranteed to finish third in Group A at the very worst.

That would mean that we would qualify for the Europa Conference League knockout stages next year, and would face a play-off against a second placed side from one of the Conference League groups.

West Ham will obviously be aiming a lot higher than that though.

Should we finish second in our group, we would then face a play-off clash with one of the teams dropping out of the Champions League, in order to get through to the last 16 of the Europa League.

Obviously we want to avoid that if at all possible. By winning Group A, we would secure our passage into the last 16.

Four points from our remaining two games against TSC Backa Topola and Freiburg would ensure that we top Europa League Group A.

But even if we don’t, the West Ham fans will have some kind of European football to look forward to in 2024 regardless. And the mere fact that I’ve just written that sentence should not be taken for granted, given where we’ve come from.
