David Moyes has thrown down the gauntlet to West Ham fans after what he heard as the Hammers gear up for Olympiacos.

West Ham’s 2-1 defeat to Olympiacos in Greece two weeks ago was notable for several reasons.

It has thrown Europa League Group A wide open between the Hammers, Freiburg and Olympiacos.

The loss ended West Ham’s run of 17 games unbeaten run in Europe – an English record until it was broken by Man City last night.

And it was also notable because of the atmosphere and how the Olympiacos fans – and players – celebrated the victory.

James Ward-Prowse has revealed West Ham are on a revenge mission after the behaviour of Olympiacos behind the scenes as they celebrated the scalp of the Conference League winners.

Revenge by way of a win for West Ham will give David Moyes’ side one foot in European knockout football for a third successive season.

And the Hammers boss wants the club’s supporters to play their part.

‘I’ve got to say…’

“There were difficult challenges in Olympiacos,” Moyes said on Wednesday ahead of the game.

“Out there, their crowd was phenomenal and they played a huge part on the day. Also, on the day, we didn’t play well – no where near our standards – so we want closer to our usual best tomorrow night.

“If we win tomorrow night we’re in a good place and we want to get the wins to qualify and be in Europe after Christmas…

“There are some brilliant stadiums in the UK when they’re rocking, but I think we all enjoyed the atmosphere in Olympiacos. We have a lot of good things going on in the Premier League but I genuinely think, if you go and watch games in Europe, the atmospheres can hit other levels…

“We’re up against one of the better teams we’ve played in Europe and I’ve got to say we’re going to have an incredible crowd, so we’ll give Olympiacos the chance to see us in good form and our home fans at their best too.”

A rallying call to the club’s fans from the manager if ever there was one.

Let’s hope the London Stadium is rocking come kick-off on Thursday night.
