David Moyes has told his West Ham stars to ‘do it for my dad’ as the Europa League final beckons for the victors in Frankfurt.
For most of us our earliest memories of the beautiful game involve being taken to your first football match by your dad.
For West Ham boss Moyes it is no different.
Moyes has always cited his father, David Senior, as his big inspiration and mentor in football.
Your Club's SURPRISE Star This Season
At West Ham Moyes has rebuilt a battered reputation and then some.
And his dad, now 86, will be in Germany tonight to watch his son’s side in the biggest game of their modern history.
West Ham trail Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 from the first leg at the London Stadium when the Hammers simply did not show the best version of themselves.
That will have to change tonight if West Ham want to take their European adventure to the end game.
And ahead of the match, Moyes has called on his team to ‘do it for my dad’ as the Europa League final beckons for the Frankfurt victors (whufc.com).
David Moyes: ‘Do it for my dad West Ham’ as Europa League final beckons for Frankfurt victors
“My dad’s coming tomorrow and I keep saying I hope my son takes me to the football when I’m 86 as well, because what else would you want to do?” Moyes said in his pre-match press conference.
“You want to go to big games and you want to get the chance to go away, so that’s it. Luckily my brother’s bringing my dad tomorrow night and great, isn’t it, when you get the chance to see you at these stages.
“I’m hoping I can give them a night to remember.
“It would be special. It would be even better if it were the final! He wants it to be the final, so do I, and having him here’s great, and as we all know when we get to 86 or 87, we’re all hoping somebody takes us to the football.
“The biggest thing is that he enjoys it, and the biggest thing for me is that we get to the final.”
Let’s hope Moyes Senior and all the other West Ham dads, sons and daughters the world over have a night they’ll never forget.
Come On. You Irons!
