Hammers boss David Moyes absolutely raves about Michail Antonio performance in epic West Ham win over Lyon.
West Ham strode into the Europa League semi-finals with a superb 3-0 victory away at Lyon sealing a 4-1 aggregate win.
The Hammers will now play Eintracht Frankfurt in the last four after the Germans saw off Barcelona 4-3 on aggregate.
It will be West Ham’s first European semi-final since 1976.
Moyes got his tactics absolutely spot on as goals from man mountain Craig Dawson, talisman Declan Rice and star attacker Jarrod Bowen sealed an unforgettable triumph.
To a man West Ham’s players put in heroic performances when it mattered most.
But none more so than striker Michail Antonio according to manager Moyes.
Antonio’s long goal drought continued in France.
The forward has not scored a Premier League goal since New Year’s Day and his only other since then came in a 3-1 FA Cup defeat at Southampton.
He was one of West Ham’s best players on an unforgettable night at Lyon, though.
And Antonio was picked out by Moyes for special praise in his post match interview with West Ham’s official website.
Moyes absolutely raved about Antonio after the epic West Ham win over Lyon and declared it one of his best performances for the club.
“I thought Micky Antonio was exceptional tonight,” Moyes told whufc.com unprompted.
“I think, for me, that’s been Micky’s best game. Certainly for a long, long time. He was exceptional tonight.”
Moyes is absolutely spot on.
Quite how Antonio turned things around so quickly after one of his worst performances in a West Ham shirt at Brentford to produce what we saw last night is baffling.
He was a complete menace for the Lyon defenders and was at his powerful, pacy best.
And when Antonio is in that kind of mood and in that kind of form he really does make West Ham tick.
