West Ham United may be blocked in whatever pursuit they have of Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles.
It is abundantly clear that West Ham United need defensive reinforcements.
Indeed, no one across Europe’s top five leagues have conceded more goals than the Hammers this season (45).
How will you remember Lucas Paqueta? 🤔
While West Ham do want to sign a new central defender during the January transfer window, time is running out for them, although reports now suggest that West Ham are close to signing Axel Disasi.
Lascelles is just one of the names who has been linked with a move to east London.
Newcastle are seemingly willing to sell Lascelles before his contract expires this summer but a move to another Premier League club may be off the table.
Jamaal Lascelles expected to move to Turkey
That’s because, according to The Daily Mail, the 32-year-old is looking further afield for his next club.
Lascelles has been linked with a move to West Ham but it now seems as if he’ll be heading abroad as he looks for the next chapter in his career.
The report suggests that Lascelles is likely to move to a club in Turkey, with recent reports touting Saudi Arabia as a potential option thought to be wrong.
Clubs in Turkey are understood to have held a long-term interest in the former Nottingham Forest defender.
Who would West Ham have to sign now for it to be as big of a shock as when we signed Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano? 😂

Latest transfer news as West Ham eye new defender
Whether it’s Lascelles or not, West Ham desperately need a new signing in central defence.
While Konstantinos Mavropanos and Jean-Clair Todibo have impressed in recent weeks, no one should be getting too excited just yet.

This is still a team who haven’t kept a clean sheet since August and while there’s a lot of work to be done as a team to fix that issue, a new signing will surely help.
Speaking during Thursday’s press conference, Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed that the club remained in active talks with other parties over potential deals before the window shuts next week.
He said: “We still have a few days to go, the Club is working very hard, and there are negotiations ongoing. I’m not going to say who or in what positions, but there are things ongoing and we expect things to happen.”
