What’s Tim Steidten cooking now as West Ham are linked with two January deals and one of them is out of this world.

That’s the question West Ham fans will be asking as the club are linked with moves for two players in the January transfer window.

The summer window has barely been closed a month but the Hammers are already allegedly plotting their next moves.

That’s according to new reports emerging over the weekend.

West Ham technical director Tim Steidten and David Moyes have been widely praised for the business done in the wake of Declan Rice’s departure in the summer.

The Hammers tried but failed to land a forward everyone felt was needed following the sale of Gianluca Scamacca.

And already the club is seeing the difference that might have made. A fine start to the season could perhaps have been even better had West Ham had different forward options in matches against Bournemouth, Man City and Liverpool.

The club look set for another 50-game plus season and will lose five players for as many as six games between January and February due to AFCON. That includes Mohammed Kudus and Maxwel Cornet.

Well it seems the man heading up West Ham’s recruitment is planning to do something about it in January – if reports are to be believed.

Dembele and Borges linked with moves to West Ham

Because according to reports West Ham are interested in signing PSG’s France star Ousmane Dembele and Porto’s Goncalo Borges.

The Mirror has made an extraordinary claim that West Ham are one of three Premier League clubs monitoring the situation of Dembele – who only joined PSG in the summer window.

The report states the 26-year-old striker has struggled to find his feet after the £50m move and could be loaned out in January with the Hammers interested.

Dembele needs to be playing regularly to keep his place in the France side ahead of next summer’s Euros.

Meanwhile Portuguese outlet A Bola claims West Ham had a scout in attendance on Saturday as FC Porto beat Gil Vicente 2-1.

Dembele loan not as unrealistic as it might sound as report claims Hammers scouts were in Portugal at the weekend

The report states the Hammers were among multiple clubs who sent their scouts to Porto ahead of the January transfer window.

It has been suggested that it was likely to have been in order to watch 22-year-old Portuguese winger Borges, who was linked with West Ham in the summer – a reported by the likes of Fabrizio Romano.

A move for Dembele – who proved he is still a top tier player with his performances for Barcelona last season – may seem highly unlikely on the surface.

But West Ham’s strong French-speaking contingent could play a role in luring him to east London – especially if it is only a loan deal. If Brighton can sign Ansu Fati on loan then why can’t the Hammers get a player like Dembele for the short term?

Borges is an exciting player who – like Dembele – can play on both wings and as a forward.

It seems there is an intriguing January window in prospect for West Ham.

But there’s plenty of football to be played between now and then.
