What West Ham will need to do to sign a player after the 11pm transfer deadline

West Ham United are in a race against time to get reported deadline day moves over the line before 11pm.

But as any West Ham fans who follow the final day of the window in great expectation twice a year will know, deals can actually be completed AFTER the deadline.

West Ham are reportedly closing on a loan deal for Spartak Moscow midfielder Alex Kral.

West Ham working on deadline day Kral deal – and potentially others

The Czech Republic midfielder is said to have completed his move and it is expected to be announced before the deadline.

But this is West Ham and anything can happen. David Moyes is also said to be chasing left-backs and potentially a forward with a few hours to go.

Any further arrivals after Kral seem unlikely.

But should Moyes and West Ham’s de facto director of football David Sullivan require more time to get a deal or two done they can submit what is known as a Premier League deal sheet.

West Ham actually kicked off the deadline day proceedings with their reported £30m plus move for CSKA Moscow star Nikola Vlasic.

We’ve started, so we’ll finish

But there is a loophole which allows Prem teams to go on even later in the form of a submitted deal sheet.

West Ham fans thinking they can go to bed when the clock strikes 11pm – maybe you will have to think again.

There is an exception to the time limits – which could force fans to stay awake past midnight to see who the Hammers might bring in.

After all the end of the window has been surprisingly busy for West Ham and across the league.

The deal sheet is an application to – in West Ham’s case – the Premier League which shows evidence that a transfer has been agreed between two clubs and also the representatives of the player.

Even if the final contract has not been signed and sealed, Prem bosses take the deal sheet as confirmation that enough progress has been made for the final details to be ironed out beyond the set deadline – this year August 31st at 11pm.

What is a Premier League transfer deal sheet and how West Ham can use it to sign players after the 11pm deadline

Although there can be a nervy wait to see if the extension has been granted, a short period of time can be granted in order for clubs like West Ham to organise the final administrative details.

Should West Ham request an extension even seconds after the 11pm deadline – it will be rejected by the league.

The official Premier League website says regarding the use of deal sheets: “Clubs sometimes conclude deals at the last minute and it is not always easy for them to get everything completed and sent over by the deadline.

“The deal sheet allows a club to confirm that a deal has been reached in order to allow for additional time to submit the remaining documentation.

“For a deadline of 23:00, the deal sheet cannot be used before 21:00 and needs to arrive fully completed before the transfer window closes.

“Once the sheet arrives, clubs have got another two hours, or until 01:00, in which to submit the full paperwork.

“But if a club are looking to complete an international transfer, they still have to comply with the FIFA Transfer Matching System (TMS) deadline of midnight.”
