What Toulouse really expect to happen with West Ham transfer target Charlie Cresswell now

West Ham’s pursuit of Charlie Cresswell could end in disappointment this month.

Indeed, it’s imperative that West Ham United go out and sign themselves a defender during what remains of the January transfer window.

Now that the forward line has been bolstered, Nuno Espirito Santo needs at least one centre-back.

If you could only keep ONE of these two players in January – who would it be?!

Though Konstantinos Mavropanos and Jean-Clair Todibo impressed for the Hammers against Tottenham on Saturday, reinforcement is badly needed.

The links with Cresswell go back months now and it was widely thought that the club could relaunch their interest in the Toulouse centre-back at some point during the January window.

Still, the French club appear to have come to a conclusion that will no doubt disappoint Irons fans.

Toulouse expect West Ham United transfer target Charlie Cresswell to stay

Wolfsburg have been trying to sign Cresswell but have so far not had much luck.

That looks set to continue, according to leading transfer reporter David Ornstein in The Athletic

Ornstein claims that Wolfsburg have made a proposal worth around £17.3million for the 23-year-old, but that Toulouse still expect him to stay during what remains of the transfer window.

The report again mentions West Ham as an interested party.

Who will prove to be a better signing and why?! 🤔

Time for West Ham to move on from Charlie Cresswell

Cresswell would be a good signing for West Ham in their current predicament, there’s little doubt about that.

Still at a relatively young age too, he’d offer a lot in the way of resale value – which is hugely important in a PSR world.

However, there is little time to waste. Unless West Ham improve defensively, they will be relegated.

With that in mind, the club simply have to start working on Cresswell alternatives.

Nuno has confirmed that West Ham are in the market for new signings and, unless one of them is a defender, then his team look destined for the Championship.
