There is West Ham worry over a potential Liverpool Lucas Paqueta hijack after a Jurgen Klopp admission as the Hammers close on the Brazil star.
West Ham and Liverpool have shared a few column inches when it comes to transfers over the last eight months.
It was well publicised in January that West Ham were trying hard to sign Darwin Nunez (Sky Sports).
The move did not happen and and Liverpool pounced to sign Nunez this summer.
It was the second West Ham move Jurgen Klopp had hijacked after Liverpool snatched Luis Diaz from under Moyes’ nose in January with the Scot believing he had the Colombian all but signed.
Liverpool had even been linked with Hammers ace Jarrod Bowen all summer until Mohamed Salah signed his new Liverpool deal.
Now there is West Ham worry over another Liverpool hijack as the Hammers close on the Paqueta signing after a Klopp admission.
A rollercoaster 48 hours has seen West Ham on the verge of one of the club’s most exciting transfers for years.
According to the likes of L’Equipe and Sky Sports, the Hammers have agreed a club record £50m plus deal to sign the Brazil international from Lyon.
And Fabrizio Romano says West Ham are making urgent arrangements to get Paqueta to London for his medical on Saturday to get the deal done and dusted.
It is easy to understand why given West Ham’s history of transfers that have suddenly gone south at the 11th hour or been hijacked by the likes of Liverpool.
Now many West Ham fans are worried the injury-hit Reds could complete a very unwelcome hat-trick by making a late move to sign Paqueta.
That’s after Klopp admitted he does now need to try and sign a new midfielder before the window closes.
Thiago, Curtis Jones and Naby Keita are all absent for Liverpool at the moment while Fabinho has only been fit enough to make the bench as Liverpool, like West Ham, await their first win of the season.
Supporters and pundits have been calling for Liverpool to sign a new midfielder.
Paqueta is extremely versatile and can play across the midfield and attack.
And West Ham fans are now understandably concerned Klopp could make a last gasp bid to lure the Brazil star to Anfield before he signs on the dotted line at the London Stadium.
Especially after he conceded he does in fact need to get a new midfielder.
“We are looking for it (a midfielder),” Klopp said in his pre-match press conference on Friday.
“If it is the right player, we need him. If it is not the right player, we don’t need him. That changed, of course. I know we have had this discussion since it all started and I am the one who said we don’t need a midfielder and you were all right and I was wrong. That’s the situation.”
West Ham fans have been talking about their concerns over a Liverpool hijack on social media and fan forums.
Especially as Paqueta could be tempted to link up with Brazil teammates Alisson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino at Anfield.
And many Liverpool supporters have been urging Klopp to try and trump Moyes to Paqueta.
Let’s hope West Ham can get Paqueta over ASAP, get the medical sorted and paperwork done before Klopp gets any ideas.
