West Ham want to sign Ollie Watkins this summer and report claims Aston Villa are demanding £50 million to get the deal done

West Ham manager David Moyes has identified Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins as his number one summer transfer target.

That’s according to a report from The Guardian who claim that the 26-year-old Villa hitman is a prime target for the Hammers in the summer transfer window.

Signing a centre-forward will be absolutely pivotal for West Ham before the start of next season.

32-year-old Michail Antonio is currently Moyes’s only option through the middle and that absolutely has to change if the Hammers are to challenge on all fronts next season.

Your Club's SURPRISE Star This Season

Antonio has been brilliant for West Ham overt the past couple of years but he can’t do everything on his own. And the 32-year-old’s form since the turn of the year is evidence that he has had to carry far too much weight on his shoulders.

It seems as though Moyes has a plan up his sleeve to address that issue in the summer…

West Ham want Watkins, £50 million could be enough to get deal done

The Guardian claims that the 26-year-old is the Hammers’ number one target ahead of the summer transfer window.

Steven Gerrard is allegedly prepared to sell Watkins but for nothing less than £50 million.

That sounds like an awful lot of money but we believe that the ex-Brentford hitman would be the absolutely perfect summer signing for West Ham.

Watkins is absolutely rapid and is always prepared to make the tireless runs into the channels in order to create space for this teammates.

The seven-capped England international is a constant menace for opposing defenders and never gives them a minute’s rest. The 26-year-old is a good finisher as well.

He has bagged 26 goals and six assists in 72 games for Villa (Transfermarkt). Not the best return but certainly not the worst either. This season, Watkins has 10 goals and one assist in 31 Premier League games for the Villans (Transfermarkt).

Watkins can certainly improve even more, but even as he is, he would be literally tailor made for West Ham and our current setup.

The former Brentford ace has absolutely everything that David Moyes usually looks for in a striker.

£50 million may be a tad extortionate for Watkins but that’s the kind of money the Hammers need to be paying for a striker if we are to reach the next level.

West Ham might want to sign Watkins but that kind of fee may well put off the Hammers owners.

Let’s just hope that Moyes manages to get this one over the line before the start of next season.
