The 21-year-old Argentinian starlet is highly rated in his homeland.
And it seems as though the Hammers’ interest has been aroused.
David Moyes is keen to sign a top class striker this summer. He currently has Michail Antonio as his only senior recognised centre-forward at the London Stadium.
West Ham have already been linked with at least 30 or 40 strikers.
And now there is a new name to add to the list!
West Ham chasing Julian Alvarez
The 21-year-old has been identified as a potential summer signing for the Hammers according to a report from ESPN Argentina.
And its has been suggested that River Plate value the striker at around £21 million. If the South Americans receive that kind of cash, they could then use the funds to sign Manuel Lanzini from West Ham according to a report from El Futbolero.
Alvarez is a real talent. He racked up four goals and seven assists in 20 games for River Plate last season (Transfermarkt).
The Argentinian starlet has 16 goals and 17 assists in 69 career games for River to his name (Transfermarkt) – not a bad return for a 21-year-old.
He is more of a wide attacking player rather than an out-and-out number nine. Alvarez certainly has the attributes needed to play through the middle, however.
If West Ham are truly in for him and River want Lanzini, a part exchange deal involving the two players would make perfect sense.
Signing Alvarez would obviously be somewhat of a perilous move for the Hammers. Bringing a young player from South America to Europe is always heavily laden in risk.

The 21-year-old does seem to have something special about him, however. And if we can send Manuel Lanzini in the opposite direction, signing Alvarez may end up being a masterstroke.
