West Ham are keen on securing the services of AC Milan striker Santiago Gimenez in the January transfer window.

Nuno Espirito Santo wants to bring in quality in different areas, but the attack is one area that is a priority for him.

With Niclas Fullkrug set to leave West Ham and Jarrod Bowen struggling for consistency, a proven goal scorer has become the need of the hour.

Santiago Gimenez’s agent claims January transfer not on the cards

Ahead of the January window, Gimenez’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, issued an update on her client’s future.

Had the Mexico international been keen on a move, she would have hinted as much in her interview with ESPN.

However, Pimenta claimed that the idea of him parting ways with Milan in the January transfer window is non-existent.

Who is your no 1 striker signing for West Ham? And is Santiago Gimenez really good enough?

“I think it’s more like a fairytale [than a realistic expectation]. I honestly don’t see Santi Gimenez at that level yet.

“For him to go to a Premier League team, he needs to get stronger. He needs to improve how he scores goals, because Premier League football is very fast, very physical, very strong, very quick.

“Serie A is very defensive and the Premier League is another level. It’s a whole different beast. If he is finding it difficult in Serie A, he is going to find it more difficult in the Premier League.”

She believes that interest from the Premier League is expected, given how well the 24-year-old did last season.

If Gimenez is to leave, West Ham will have to shell out £30million in order to secure his services in the coming weeks.

As things stand, that seems to be highly unlikely, given the club’s financial constraints and also the forward’s unwillingness to leave.

Pimenta said: “If the Premier League wants him, it doesn’t surprise me that they want him. That there are one or two or three clubs that may have that intention seems normal to me, but the idea of leaving Milan is non-existent.”

West Ham not expected to pursue Gimenez any further

Had the Mexican been open to a move, his agent would have spoken about his desire to play in the Premier League.

However, it does not look like a January transfer is on his mind, but that does not mean the Hammers should not sign a striker.

It’s imperative to replace Fullkrug and also bring in someone in their prime who is capable of scoring goals.

Callum Wilson has been Nuno’s go-to man, but he is 33 and cannot be expected to play full games week in and week out.

Nuno will have a few strikers he fancies and even a loan move could be on the cards as their primary goal is to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
