West Ham United fans gloat over Tottenham Hotspur’s Gedson Fernandes error

Some West Ham United fans have taken to Twitter to gloat over Tottenham fans after Sky Sports reported that Gedson Fernandes could be sent back to Benfica six months early.

The Hammers were close to agreeing a deal to sign Gedson Fernandes on loan last January with an obligation to buy for £33 million, according to a report from Sky Sports.

The east London outfit’s interest in the 21-year-old aroused Tottenham’s curiosity, however.

And the Portuguese starlet ended up joining Spurs on an 18-month loan deal. The north London club allegedly have an option to buy the midfielder for £42.7 million in the summer of 2021 (Sky Sports).

Tottenham made mistake signing Gedson Fernandes

Gedson Fernandes has failed to establish himself at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, however.

In 13 games for Spurs, the attacking midfielder has failed to register either a goal or an assist (Transfermarkt).

Jose Mourinho is clearly not a fan of his countryman and Sky Sports report that the 21-year-old could head back to Benfica six months early.

This has amused some West Ham fans no end. After missing out on Fernandes 12 months ago, David Moyes brought Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen to the London Stadium.

And the rest is history.
