According to Claret and Hugh, there is a possibility that Tottenham Hotspur could table a bid for West Ham United defender Issa Diop this month.

The French centre-back joined the Hammers from Toulouse in the summer of 2018 for around £25 million (The Express).

He initially really impressed at the London Stadium.

It seems as though he could be offered an escape route from east London, however.

Claret and Hugh claims Jose Mourinho is a huge admirer of the West Ham ace and Tottenham could table a bid for him this month.

The Portuguese openly expressed his admiration for the Frenchman when he was in charge at Manchester United, as quoted by the Standard:

“He had a fantastic match. Congratulations to the scout that found a 21-year-old kid Diop – a monster who dominated in the duels.”

Issa Diop previously tracked by Tottenham

Spurs have been credited with an interest in signing the Hammers ace before.

Foot Mercato claimed back in the summer that the French centre-back was Jose Mourinho’s number one priority signing.

West Ham allegedly wanted a whopping £60 million for the 23-year-old, however, according to the Daily Mail.

Diop obviously stayed at the London Stadium and C&H claims that David Moyes would be reluctant to sanction the defender’s exit to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

We need to keep players like Issa Diop at the club. Sure, he hasn’t been great recently, but he has truly immense potential. And we certainly shouldn’t be selling any players to Tottenham.

Angelo Ogbonna, Aaron Cresswell and Craig Dawson are all on the wrong side of 30 whilst Fabian Balbuena is 29.

It will be vital for West Ham to keep Diop with the view to getting him back to his very best.

Selling him this month would be the wrong decision. Letting him join Tottenham, however, would be another level of bad decision making.
