And some Hammers fans have reacted furiously to the speculation on Twitter.
David Moyes is expected to be a busy man in the transfer market this summer.
The very least we expect will be for the players he signs to be on the upward curve of their respective careers, however.

The Man United duo are both well past their best.
West Ham could and should be doing so much better than Matic and Jones. It would be a really surprising move if the Hammers did sign either of the two Manchester United players.
David Moyes has repeatedly insisted that he wants to add talented, young and hungry players to his ranks.
And Matic and Jones certainly don’t fit into that category.
The Hammers should have learned their lesson from previous seasons. Far too often we have provided ageing has-beens with one big final contract.
