West Ham transfer update: The Hammers are allegedly now interested in signing Schalke defender Malick Thiaw before the January window slams shut.
That’s according to a report from Tuttomercatoweb who claim that the Hammers could be set to battle it out with AC Milan for the 20-year-old’s signature this month.
West Ham manger David Moyes has made strengthening his central defensive ranks at the London Stadium one of his main priorities in January.
Angelo Ogbonna is out for the entire season whilst Kurt Zouma has only just returned to action.
Meanwhile, Issa Diop is nowhere near the level required to be playing regular Premier League football.
It seems as though Moyes has someone in mind to come in and improve upon his current centre-back options at the London Stadium…
West Ham transfer update
Tuttomercatoweb claims that the Hammers are eyeing up a January transfer window swoop for Schalke starlet Malick Thiaw.
He is a very talented young player with plenty of potential and seems to have all of the attributes required to succeed in the Premier League.
Standing at 6ft 3in tall, Thiaw is a big and imposing centre-half. He is very strong in the air, tenacious in the tackle and quick along the ground.
In 20 Bundesliga 2 appearances for Schalke so far this season, the 20-year-old has averaged three tackles, 1.6 interceptions and 3.4 clearances per match. He has also won an average of 3.1 aerial duels per game (Who Scored).
Those are some incredibly impressive numbers.
Thiaw is a very good passer of the football and is extremely comfortable when in possession. In 20 league outings this season, he has made 57.3 passes per match and has registered an impressive completion rate of 82.7% (Who Scored).
He could be available for as little as €8 million (£6.6 million) this month according to Italy 24 News.
That sounds like very good business to us.
If David Moyes genuinely wants to sign Thiaw, we would be more than happy with the 20-year-old rocking up at West Ham before the January transfer window deadline.
The simple fact of the matter is that Moyes needs to upgrade on Diop before the end of this month. And signing Thiaw would certainly enable him to do just that.
