West Ham United are said to be closing in on a transfer deadline day deal to sign a striker.
With deadline day now upon us, West Ham need to get a couple of signings over the line before the January transfer window slams shut.
Evan Ferguson is the man everyone is talking about right now, with a deal to bring him to East London on loan having been struck.
Graham Potter had a clear transfer remit when he took over at the London Stadium, and that was to sign a new striker for the Hammers.
Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug are both out with long-term injuries, leaving Danny Ings as our only natural centre-forward.

Of course Jarrod Bowen can play through the middle if need be, but then we miss the skipper’s qualities out on the right wing.
So with that in mind, it’s great to see that Potter is on the cusp of addressing the centre-forward deficiencies that we currently have.
West Ham to announce big deadline day signing within hours
The Hammers are ready to kick their January transfer business into gear…finally.
That’s because we appear to be on the verge of sealing a big striker signing.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Hammers will announce a deal to sign Ferguson from Brighton within hours.
Say what you want about the loan deal for the 20-year-old, but we have got a Premier League proven striker through the door.

I don’t necessarily subscribe to the theory that if he does well for us he will simply return to Brighton in the summer or move on to join a bigger club.
If Ferguson rips it up with the Hammers, he will obviously have enjoyed his time at the London Stadium working under his former manager Graham Potter.

West Ham obviously didn’t want to commit to a £40 million fee for Evan Ferguson on transfer deadline day.
And that’s the prudent play as far as I’m concerned.
Hopefully the Irishman succeeds with the Hammers and we are then able to sign him on a permanent deal in the summer.
