West Ham United’s tussle with bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur for Nikola Milenkovic looks to have been settled.

And it appears Tottenham have won the race for the Serbian defender.

In what could be a double blow for West Ham, Spurs also appear to have made a serious move for another longstanding alleged Hammers target, Nahitan Nandez.

That’s if new reports from Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia and Football Italia overnight are to be believed.

Tottenham clear favourites for Milenkovic as West Ham ‘pull out’ – reports

The reports claim Tottenham are now clear favourites for Milenkovic and want to partner him with another defender they have signed from Serie A – ex Atalanta star Cristian Romero.

The reports state that West Ham have pulled out of the talks with Fiorentina entirely and are ‘aware they would be better off targeting another option’.

Both West Ham and Tottenham got the new Premier League season off to a winning start this weekend.

West Ham produced an impressive attacking display to beat Newcastle 4-2 away. But David Moyes admitted after the game some of his side’s defending worried him.

The Scot also said he is looking to bring in another centre-back before the transfer window closes.

That looks unlikely to be Milenkovic now according to the new reports which claim Tottenham’s negotiations are progressing well and the player is ‘content with the idea of joining Spurs this summer’.

Respected Gazzetta dello Sport reporter Alfredo Pedulla backed up the claims adding on Twitter that the signing could be confirmed soon.

West Ham fans had been excited by the prospect of signing Milenkovic.

But Fiorentina did not have the greatest defensive record last season as they finished 13th having shipped 59 goals.

Tottenham want a cheeky Nandez by beating West Ham to another alleged Moyes target

The reaction from Tottenham fans on social media has hardly been one of overwhelming endorsement either.

Many are questioning the potential signing of Milenkovic with some suggesting he is too slow for the Premier League.

And Sky Sports Italia is reporting that Uruguayan midfield ace Nandez – who has been consistently linked with West Ham as recently as June – is seriously interesting Spurs.

“A real negotiation has not yet begun, but the London club has requested the first information from the rossoblù club (Cagliari) about the willingness to talk about the player,” Sky Sports Italia reports.

“It has not yet gone into the details of any economic conditions or formulas of the operation, but the discussion could be deepened in the coming days after these first contacts.”

In other news, major West Ham transfer announcement claim proves to be nonsense.
