Links with the 25-year-old may not excite the Hammers fans.

The Burnley ace would be a very smart addition for West Ham, however.

The midfielder, who moved to Turf Moor from Bristol City in January 2020 for around £10 million (Daily Mail), leads Declan Rice in the interceptions stat category in the Premier League this season.

Dec is adored by the Hammers faithful.

The 22-year-old’s best attributes are his ability to snuff out danger and his brilliant knack of intercepting the ball from the opposition.

Rice has 52 interceptions to his name from 27 Premier league games played. That’s the fourth most in the top flight (premierleague.com).

Meanwhile, Burnley ace Josh Brownhill has 55, three more than Rice and in four fewer games. He is second in the interceptions category, three behind the leader – Southampton ace Jan Bednarek (premierleague.com).

The Clarets ace may not be the most aesthetically pleasing player but he does a really important job.

The 25-year-old is vitally important to Sean Dyche and the Burnley boss surely won’t want to lose him.

West Ham manager David Moyes desperately needs to bring another central midfielder to the London Stadium this summer.

Brownhill seems to fit the bill perfectly. With his tenacious tackling and uncanny knack of being able to intercept the ball and interrupt the opposition’s play through the middle of the park, he’d provide the ideal competition and cover for Rice and Tomas Soucek.

Whether the West Ham owners will be prepared to make an offer that might tempt Burnley into selling, however, remains to be seen.
