West Ham signing Everton ace Amadou Onana for £20 million more than it would have taken last year would highlight David Moyes’s incompetence when it comes to transfers.

According to Paul Brown, speaking via Give Me Sport, West Ham want to sign Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, and we would have to pay around £55 million to get it done (Le Soir).

West Ham famously chased the 21-year-old last summer before he eventually joined Everton in a £33 million deal.

The Belgium international really impressed with the Toffees last season, and he’s exactly the kind of player we need in the middle of the park.

Moyes famously pulled the plug on the deal for Onana last summer because of his ‘extortionate’ wage demands.

The Scot needs to learn that sometimes you’ve just got to pay a player what they’re worth though. That lack of foresight from Moyes could end up costing West Ham £20 million plus, if the 21-year-old moves to the London Stadium this summer.

Who knows…it might still work out well for the Hammers, but things could have been so much easier and the club could have secured a far more cost effective deal, had we signed Onana from Lille last year.

£55 million is an awful lot of money, and I would suggest that it’s probably too expensive for the 21-year-old. However, that’s what he’s worth to Everton, and if West Ham really want to make some genuine progress over the next few years, Onana is the type of player we should be signing.

It’s just such a big shame that Moyes didn’t pull the trigger last summer.
