West Ham United are reportedly favourites to sign ‘outstanding’ Germany international for £15.5m due to Tim Steidten.

According to a report from Kicker, West Ham are leading the race to sign Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen for just €18 million (£15.5 million) in the summer transfer window due to the impending arrival of Technical Director Tim Steidten.

The East London outfit have been heavily linked with a move to sign the Leverkusen centre-back over the past couple of years – most recently earlier this month.

Hammers boss David Moyes desperately needs to bring a top-class central defender to the London Stadium after Craig Dawson left the club in January and doubts over Angelo Ogbonna’s long-term future and Kurt Zouma’s continual injury problems.

It seems as though the Scot, and Steidten has someone in particular in mind for the job…

The Hammers soon-to-be Technical Director knows Tah very well from his time at Bayer Leverkusen.

And Kicker claim that that relationship puts West Ham in the front row to sign the 27-year-old Germany international this summer.

I really hope there are some legs to this rumour – Tah would be a stunning addition to Moyes’s ranks at the London Stadium.

In 33 Bundesliga appearances for Leverkusen this season just gone, Tah averaged 1.2 interceptions and 3.5 clearances per game. He also won an average of 1.7 aerial duels per match (Who Scored).

The German is a superb passer of the football and is very comfortable in possession. This season, he made 49.4 passes per game on average in the Bundesliga and recorded a hugely impressive completion rate of 89.1% (Who Scored).

Standing at 6ft 5in tall, the German is physically imposing and is incredibly dominating in the air. Bleacher Report once described him as an ‘outstanding’ defender.

If West Ham really have the chance to sign Jonathan Tah for just £15.5 million, Tim Steidten has to insist to Moyes that he gets this one all wrapped up as soon as possible.

We really will be much stronger defensive unit with the 27-year-old at the club.
