West Ham shocker as report claims Tottenham are planning Lucas Paqueta hijack

Tottenham Hotspur allegedly could attempt to hijack West Ham United’s deal to sign Lucas Paqueta from Lyon.

That’s according to a report from The Express who claim that Tottenham are closely monitoring the situation, with Paqueta’s agents currently in London working on a move to West Ham for their client.

The Hammers are said to be confident of signing Paqueta for around £42-50 million, with Lyon already lining up a replacement for the Brazilian ace.

Tottenham could well be a huge problem for us now though.

Antonio Conte is building something very exciting at Spurs, as much as it pains me to admit that.

Meanwhile, West Ham have made a really poor start to our 2022/23 campaign, so it would only be natural for a top-class player to view a move to Tottenham as a more appealing one…as things stand.

Tottenham could hijack West Ham move for Lucas Paqueta

The Express reckon that Spurs hijacking the Hammers’ move to sign the 24-year-old Lyon ace is certainly a possibility this summer.

Missing out on Paqueta to Tottenham would be a genuinely massive blow to stomach for West Ham.

The 33-capped Brazil international is an attacking midfielder by trade but he can also operate on either wing if need be.

The silky left-footed ace has bagged 20 goals and 13 assists in 77 games for Lyon so far. Last season, he racked up 11 goals and seven assists in 44 appearances for the French side (Transfermarkt).

Paqueta possesses exceptional technique, impressive pace and has a real eye for goal and a killer pass.

When Liverpool were linked with a move to sign him, Reds fan-site Read Liverpool described the South American star as ‘electrifying’.

He seems to have all of the attributes needed to succeed in the Premier League and he has that nasty side on the football pitch that is so quintessentially South American as well.

We think that £50 million for Lucas Paqueta wouldn’t be bad value at all for West Ham. Perhaps the Hammers and Lyon can meet somewhere in the middle around £45 million or so.

And with Lyon already preparing for his exit from the Groupama Stadium, it seems as though it might not be too long before we see the Brazilian holding up the West Ham shirt.

Tottenham reportedly entering the race for Paqueta will undoubtedly represent an unwelcome inconvenience for West Ham though.
