West Ham plot move to sign Phil Bardsley - report

West Ham are plotting a move to sign Burnley full-back Phil Bardsley according to a report from The Telegraph.

All we can say is wow.

Surely there is no truth to this.

The worrying thing is that The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath is usually very reliable.

Hammers boss David Moyes surely needs to be bolstering his ranks in other areas aside from right-back this summer, however.

The Scot needs to bring two centre-forwards, a centre-back, a central midfielder and a number 10 to the London Stadium this summer.

He seemingly has minimal funds at his disposal as well.

West Ham to move for Phil Bardsley

The Telegraph claimed that the 36-year-old Clarets right-back is on the Hammers’ radar.

This would be such a strange move from the East London outfit.

Moyes has repeatedly insisted that he wants to bring young and hungry players to the club.

The Scot has been open about his desire to build a young and energetic side at West Ham.

So signing Bardsley certainly wouldn’t fit in with that supposed vision.

The experienced pro was a fine defender in his day. And we wouldn’t even mind Moyes signing him if we had a shortage at right-back.

That’s simply not the case, however. The Hammers boss has Vladimir Coufal, Ryan Fredericks and Ben Johnson to choose from.

If the West Ham owners are going to sign a right-back this summer, they would be far better served bringing in a youngster with bags of potential. We really shouldn’t be going anywhere near Phil Bardsley.
