West Ham United have missed out on signing Calvin Bassey from Rangers with the defender set to join Ajax this summer.
Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter last night and confirmed that the 22-year-old will join Ajax from Rangers imminently.

The highly-respected Italian journalist claims that Ajax will pay €22 million + €5 million in add-ons (£23 million) for Bassey.
Signing a top-class left-back will be vital for Moyes this summer. Aaron Cresswell has been very good for us over the past eight years but his form dipped drastically during the second-half of last season.
And that’s why Bassey would have been such a good addition for us this summer. He’d have been a huge upgrade on Cresswell and he can play in the centre-back position as well!
Unfortunately for us though, the 22-year-old is set to head elsewhere…
Calvin Bassey set for Ajax move
The 22-year-old defender is set to join Ajax from Glasgow Rangers in a deal that could reach £23 million.
That’s according to high-profile journo Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian took to Twitter last night to give the lowdown on the deal…
That’s a really tough one to take. Calvin Bassey would have been an exceptional addition for West Ham this summer.
In 26 Scottish Premiership appearances for Rangers last season, Bassey averaged 1.3 tackles and 1.3 clearances per game (Who Scored).
During those outings, he won an average of 1.9 aerial duels per match. In those games, the international averaged 64.5 passes per match and recorded a completion rate of 86.9% (Who Scored).
Born in Italy, the Rangers star possesses Nigerian citizenship. He is athletic, energetic and very powerful.
Bassey has a wand of a left foot. He can operate at left-back or centre-back so it is obvious to see why David Moyes wanted to bring him to the London Stadium.
Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst recently raved about the 22-year-old, when speaking to Complete Sports:
“I haven’t seen him play a lot as a left-back. I saw some footage but in my five games here he has played as a central defender. I’m really happy with him, he’s got everything for a modern defender.”
It seems as though Ajax have a very good player on their hands in the form of Calvin Bassey.
